Social Selling That Works! Podcast
Social Selling That Works is the podcast for salespeople, marketers, business owners and leaders who want practical advice on social selling and using LinkedIn to generate demand, build pipeline and win clients.
Hosted by Dean Seddon, LinkedIn and Social Selling expert, we share practical advice and discussion on what actually works across LinkedIn, Social Selling and Sales Navigator.
We cover the methods, skills and behaviours behind Social Selling, how LinkedIn works and how to use its features properly, how sales teams can use Sales Navigator to find and engage prospects, how marketing teams can get more from Company Pages, and how leaders can use Executive Advocacy to build trust, shape market perception and support growth.
We take a realistic approach to LinkedIn. A lot of advice is built for influencers and full-time creators. We focus on what works for people who need results without making LinkedIn another full-time job.
Our view is simple. Signal beats volume. Clear messaging, a deep understanding of your customer and better conversations matter more than building a huge audience or relying on high-volume outreach.
If you want practical, real-world advice on LinkedIn, Social Selling, Sales Navigator, Company Pages, Content and Executive Advocacy, Social Selling Made Simple is for you.

What are the biggest social selling mistakes sales teams make when trying to generate pipeline through LinkedIn?
In this episode of the Social Selling That Works! Podcast, hosted by Dean Seddon, LinkedIn and Social Selling Expert, we break down 10 mistakes that stop sales teams getting consistent results from LinkedIn, Social Selling and Sales Navigator.
The 10 mistakes are:
Failing to change the sales culture
Leadership not being fully on board
Not mapping a clear Social Selling process
Poor time management on LinkedIn
Poor lead management
Weak LinkedIn profiles
Connecting with prospects too late
Poor integration between sales and marketing
Introducing AI and automation too early
Getting LinkedIn messaging wrong
We start with sales culture, because implementing Social Selling is not simply adding LinkedIn to an existing outbound sales process. Traditional cold calling and email cadences often create a culture built around immediate activity and immediate return. Social Selling works differently. Salespeople are creating familiarity, developing recognition and moving more prospects forward through smaller touchpoints before asking for a meeting.
Dean shares the example of a company with an aggressive, frenetic sales culture where calls and emails happened constantly. When part of the team's time shifted towards Social Selling, salespeople began having conversations on LinkedIn with prospects who had previously rejected them on the phone. The problem was that their “do it now” mentality caused them to push those new conversations too quickly and destroy opportunities.
That is why we recommend starting Social Selling with a small pilot group of salespeople who are genuinely open to the approach, rather than automatically selecting the best cold callers or email performers. Early success gives the wider sales team evidence that the process works.
The second mistake is leadership treating Social Selling as optional. Sales leaders and senior leadership need to reinforce the new behaviours required. We discuss the idea of “familiarity first”: prospects are more likely to respond when they already recognise the salesperson. That does not mean spending months warming someone up, but it does mean creating enough familiarity to improve the chances of a response.
Next is process. When companies tell salespeople to “use LinkedIn” without mapping out what they should actually do, sellers often recreate their existing cold email or cold calling process on LinkedIn. Social Selling is more person-to-person, so the process, sales assets and supporting content need to reflect that. Marketing collateral can also be too sales-focused for LinkedIn DMs, where useful insights, case studies and thought-provoking material often work better.
Time management is another major issue. A salesperson can spend two hours searching LinkedIn or Sales Navigator, feel busy and still move nobody forward. We explain why Social Selling activity should be broken into specific tasks with dedicated time blocks, so sellers know exactly what actions they need to complete rather than opening LinkedIn and deciding what to do next.
Lead management follows closely behind. Traditional CRMs are not always well suited to the small, light-touch actions involved in LinkedIn prospecting. Connecting, sending a thank-you message or setting a future follow-up can take less time than recording the activity in the CRM.
We explain how Sales Navigator can operate as what Dean calls a “battlefield CRM”. Sellers can use Sales Navigator lead lists, notes and stages to manage prospects during the early Social Selling process, including lists for people to revisit in three months or next quarter. Where Sales Navigator is integrated with the CRM, notes can also be pushed back into the main system. Dean recommends moving the opportunity fu

What is Social Selling?
What does Social Selling actually mean, and how is it different from content marketing, cold outreach and simply posting on LinkedIn?
In this episode of Social Selling That Works, Dean Seddon breaks down what Social Selling is, what it isn’t, and why so many people misunderstand the term.
Social Selling is not simply creating content on LinkedIn, and it is not sending high volumes of automated sales messages. Instead, Dean explains Social Selling as a more human, relational and familiarity-first way of selling, using natural human interaction and social media to create an exchange of value where both sides are better off.
You’ll discover the four core elements Dean associates with Social Selling: content, human interaction and relationships, personal branding, and conversations through outreach.
Dean also explains why Social Selling extends beyond LinkedIn. While LinkedIn helped popularise the term, Social Selling is an approach to selling rather than something restricted to a single platform.
If you want to understand how Social Selling works on LinkedIn, how it differs from content marketing and cold outreach, and why familiarity matters when building relationships with potential clients, this episode gives you a clear definition.
Social Selling That Works is hosted by Dean Seddon, CEO of MAVERRIK and LinkedIn and Social Selling Expert, and explores practical approaches to using LinkedIn and Social Selling to that work in the real world of business.
